Storyboarding - Act 1

Me and Naomi both decided to attempt ideas for how the

photographs could end up looking like in our Act 1 opening montage.

For this 'storyboard', I was mostly just trying to figure out poses and taking notes for the shot, because in the end, this will be more of a pan across the photographs.
So far the plan among the group has been to have polaroid images which will be shown in order.
Mat then gave us the suggestion to have a family photo album that could flick like the opening to Shrek - which could be a good idea as we could have opening credits instead of end ones, and our details next to the photos.
And then Mike gave us the idea that we should have a family photo wall. We discussed this idea for a while and how we could make Lilith appear in the last photograph by panning slowly across the wall, ending on panel 3, and then having the photo freak out like a poltergeist and it altering - to fit possibly a freaky title. I tried to show this possible title wall as a feature in both storyboards I have done so far, creating one big dining room/ living room setting where these family moments can all take place, to save Ayesha on an extra background for the party, and both scenes in Act 3.
However the group keeps jumping back to the idea about the polaroid images, which I think is possibly the more underdeveloped idea of the three. So this will be brought up in our next discussion.

As we haven't started thinking about any of the locations for these shots, I essentially made some up with a basic layout of what I thought could happen in the given shot. I liked the idea of the wedding having a skylight, as if it was hosted in a human underground area - relating to demons being from the underworld and connecting that bridge. I also liked the idea of there being a non typical archway - that doesn't have flowers - a lot like how we have a gruesome cake in the script. The main thing to figure out was the pose, and how to make this look like a flattering moment despite the height difference I designed. I think the good thing about this pose is that the sinister looking, mature devil looks animated and cute - and the wife's more awkward looking posture will be mostly hidden by her dress.

One of the directions for the 2nd shot was that the dad's arm had to be around them both lovingly, and again the height difference posed a tough issue. I think this pose emulates that his hidden arm is on her back, by the amount that he is leaning in to the hug. I also like the front arm placement because it still seems protective, even if he's not got enough arm length to physically hold them both. Looking at family photographs, the backgrounds are always plain or with a slight fade at the bottom from the curtain lighting, which I thought would add nice depth and show there is space behind the couple for the dad's tail. I also wanted the dad to still look slightly sinister like in his basic design , even if he's happy.

I think out of all of them, the party scene has the best camera angle, as it really helps set the scene of a happy party, but just the right amount of people Sandy wants with her on the day - until Lilith appears making the image look overcrowded. Though we aren't sure who all of the extra friends are in either Act1 or Act 3 Scene 2 - I thought having a small character between the dad and Sandy would be better for framing so I continued over the small wisp. I also liked the idea that in her pure excitement ( as shown in the script) - Lilith could also unintentionally already cause Sandy trouble by trying to blow out her candles for her in the spur of the moment. But I have drawn it so this could equally just look like pure excitement as it was written. I thought replacing on character in the photo would mean a lot of changes to the overall feel of the room, and so I changed the facial expressions of every character. Out of this scene, I probably dislike the dad the most, as I think I've made him look annoyed at Lilith interfering - when he's really narrowing his eyes at Sandy for trying to lean away from her 'gift'/ guardian.
